Who is Career Prep Academy for?

You don’t have to be an Honors student! For Career Prep Academy, a student’s academic progress (GPA) is less important than motivation and maturity. Our program is created for students with “professional” career aspirations (planning to attend college). A student does not need to know what they plan to study or what kind of career they want. They just need to be willing to complete the simple steps of the program which will guide them to the answers they seek. (You can’t take a shortcut without taking the first step!) Students who do have career plans also need this program for skills that can bring faster career advancement (e.g. promotions).

NOTICE OF NON-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY

Career Prep Academy admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to enrolled students. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and programs.

What does the Career Prep Academy Program do?

Essentially, the program is a shortcut to guide the development of qualities and skills that bring success for rapid career development and promotions; these same “secrets” can make college acceptance and scholarships easy and can help a student select a career path and shorten the journey through college to career success.

Instead of wasting years discovering one’s purpose in college (while racking up unnecessary debt) and blundering though the workplace’s unspoken rules (while making a bad impression), a Career Prep Academy student can navigate their future career path without unnecessary speed bumps, detours, or the dreaded “dead end job.”

Kids figure things out eventually—isn’t that the point of college?

Do you want to BE the kid who graduates from college on time and quickly begins a great career, or do you want to ENVY them?

Imagine getting the same degree in 4 years instead of 6 (or more) years; saving tens of thousands of dollars—and making money while other less prepared students struggle!

There are many reasons students don’t finish or make the most of their college experience, but almost all reasons can be traced back to the fact that students who lack maturity, motivation, and a sense of purpose tend to waste their youth, going deeper in debt with student loans for years of school they could have avoided.

Most students don’t finish college “on time.” 53% of students don’t graduate with a Bachelor’s degree (otherwise known as a 4 year degree) within 6 years of college. Many students drop out because they weren’t emotionally ready for the challenge. Aimlessly taking courses, hoping their sense of purpose will magically appear; students’ motivation dwindles which often leads to dropping out instead of graduating. And for parents: How long do you want your kid living at home?

I’m getting good grades. Why would I need your program?

Good grades aren’t the only key to success in life. High School and College teach technical knowledge; Career Prep Academy teaches the skills and self-awareness school cannot provide. As noted by employers, students are graduating from college without a strong foundation of maturity, interpersonal skills, and transferrable skills. They lack the skills that could help them get a position, keep a position, and get a promotion. When a student knows what qualities to build and how to build them, they can get a head start and their college years won’t be spent “catching up” but rather building on a strong foundation that will serve them well for years to come. Do you know:

  • What would you like to do?/What can you do well?
  • What positions will be available in the future? Will your career/field be in-demand?
    • How will you get the position? (This goes beyond education—it involves networking. Do you know how to present yourself and make a good impression?)
    • And after you get the position, what interpersonal skills do you need in order to keep the position and get a promotion?

How much time will it take?

The time needed for this program is minimal; nothing like the commitment of joining a sports team. The instructions are simple and support outside of guidance sessions is just a phone call or email away. The study skills and other time-saving strategies taught by Career Prep Academy can help you save far more time than you could possibly spend on the program. This means you can have more time for your social life AND get ahead in school.

Considering how many years typical (directionless) students waste figuring out their purpose, you could potentially save years of your future from just a couple of hours per month now.

How can a student get the most out of your program?

Students need to be motivated and mature enough to have the discipline to complete simple exercises in the Manual, arrive at appointments on time, and not be disruptive during workshops and webinars.

How is this different from career testing?

Tests aren’t guidance. Although testing is a small part of the Career Prep Academy program, the guidance and simple instructions that help a student develop essential skills to prepare for college (to graduate “on-time” or early) and the real world (ready with the maturity and skills employers want). Career Prep Academy guides students to develop:

  • Emotional Intelligence & Maturity
  • Motivation
  • Overcoming irrational FEARS that hinder their development/progress
  • Study Skills & Prioritizing
  • Setting Boundaries for healthy relationships
  • Career Testing and Career path planning (for optimal personality “fit” for the best career path.)
  • Determining the demand for desired career
  • Writing skills for Scholarships and Career success
  • Transferrable skills for lifelong career development
  • College choice and College acceptance planning

Why do I need Career Prep Academy since I already have a guidance counselor?

Career Prep Academy’s service enhances but differs from the support provided by a guidance counselor. In addition to career and college preparation, we guide the progress of personal and professional qualities which fuel career advancement. Budget constraints have affected the guidance counseling system which is part of the reason 25% of college freshmen drop out and most college students need more than 4 years to graduate.

What makes Career Prep Academy different from other services?

  • Career vs. Academic basis: Many programs are created from an academic viewpoint—Career Prep Academy is created from a career preparation standpoint so that bridging the gap between school and work is reverse-engineered with a clear end goal.
  • The answers you seek aren’t forced on you; theprogram helps you reveal your true path. Career Prep Academy knows it’s hard to plan your future when everyone else is imposing their opinions on you. The program guides students through the information they reveal by completing the exercises.
  • Learning that pays: What you learn in school can help you qualify for a job, but it’s the personal qualities (e.g. maturity and communication skills, etc.) are what help you get the job and help you position yourself for a promotion.
  • Easy to follow: Students create an inventory of themselves based on where they are, and what is needed to “get there” in easy discovery and planning steps. Instead of conventional programs in which students are only told WHAT to do (which sounds like “because I said so” which can diminish motivation), Career Prep Academy’s program shows students what they really need to know—WHY and HOW. The planning and clarity of the program makes the future easy and achievable. The Manual is set up in easy to read instructions, not a lot of “fluff” which would be boring or hard to understand.
  • Get a new mindset to get ahead: Career Prep Academy’s techniques help you “train your brain” to optimize your current learning experiences to get the most out of your High School experiences. Instead of spending years learning on your own through trial and error, you can “hit the ground running”—this time, with a map! This new mindset can help you learn to network and notice opportunities. The ability to recognize opportunities is usually referred to as luck; being prepared for opportunities can help you make the most of each opportunity you find. Wouldn’t you like to be “lucky” and ready for all that life offers you?

Can this program help with Scholarships and College Acceptance?

The same elements of preparation for College and Career are essential to College Acceptance and Scholarships. Preparation for these crucial objectives is essentially a natural outcome of our program and is covered in our instructions.

The Career Prep Academy program also prepares a student for the most difficult steps of college acceptance. Students are given simple steps to learn how to convey their accomplishments and the qualities admissions representatives want as well as the one thing that’s ignored until it’s almost too late—recommendations from credible sources.

Spotting Scholarship scams as well as reviews of the top scholarship sites are included in the instructions.

My family has been fighting with me because I don’t have a plan yet—what can I do?

When a teen shows how well they handle their life, parents can feel more comfortable letting their child manage their own lives. Fighting about future planning and daily responsibilities is very common. Children are often told WHAT to do, but are rarely given clear directions for WHY they should do what they’re told—and HOW to accomplish it. Simple steps for planning for the future as well as easy ways to accomplish each goal are the foundation of the Career Prep Academy program’s technique. Recommended progress for each grade level for each step is clearly explained in the program. Parents are often worried their child will be too far behind normal progress. Career Prep Academy’s timeline planning can help a student get back on track, even if it seems like it’s too late.
